This short outing takes you from the Slippery Brook Road (closed in winter) a short distance to Mountain Pond. This location receives less traffic than many points in the White Mountains if solitude is what you are seeking. The pond can be quite photogenic in fall when colors are vibrant. A longer outing can be had in winter by following the Slippery Brook Road as far as it is plowed and then cross-country skiing or snowshoeing to the Mountain Pond Loop. Bring extra food and water and be prepared for emergencies. Traction devices are advised in icy or snowy conditions. A parking permit is required at trailheads in the White Mountain National Forest.
